It's February and Valentine's Day is around the corner.
If I decided to craft a playlist in honor of the occasion, I find it sad that I would only pick about one song from anything currently on the R&B charts right now.
Classic, non-pornographic love songs are too rare in commerical R&B these days. Can somebody consider creating sizzling duets, a la Rick James and Teena Marie (R.I.P. to both) to get our pulses racing again?
Here's a list of R&B artists who would make beautiful music together.
1. India Aire and Jesse Boykins III. I envisioned these two teaming up the minute I heard the soulful, folk-influenced tracks on Boykins' The Beauty Created.
2. Leela James and Anthony Hamilton. Apparently, they've already collaborated on a track...can they power through the politics and get it released?
3. Jazmine Sullivan and Bilal. Imagine an I-really-hate-how-much-I-love-you duet from the Philadelphia natives. Remember Bilal's "Sometimes?" It would be some burn-the-house-down-crazy brilliance.
4. Mary J. Blige and Eric Benet. He's back in my good graces after "Sometimes I Cry" and its refreshing video. Their voices would play well off of each other.
Who's on your duet wish list?
