It's Monday, But The Weekend Can Still Be A Friend In Your Head

Hope you managed to thaw out from the insanely cold weekend.

Although the Marsha Ambrosius event at The Park nearly tempted me to come out and play after dark, I mostly watched new indie movies, marveled at the poor dating skills of sisters on VH1, and spent too much time on the 'net.  Let's hope this week is a bit more sultry.

Here's an assortment of info and events to jump-start your week.
  • Begin with this thought-provoking NYT article on the progress of the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture.  Our stories are so complex--is it possible that the truth will be tainted by politics?
  • Heard of the Luther?  I'm only mildly ashamed to admit that its appearance in D.C. has placed ChurchKey on my to-do list.  Oink if you hear me.
  • Today at the Busboys on 14th, Dr. Clarence Lusane discusses his book about the history of African-Americans in the White House at 6:30.  Although the 5th and K location has a watch party for the State of the Union address at 9:00 on Tuesday, you should only do SOTU drinking games in the privacy of your own home.  Stay classy, D.C.
  • Reggae kills the winter blahs.  I was reminded of this while jamming in line at the Chinatown Chop't.   Stop by Steve's Bar Room (kinda divey, but fun and ahem, reeeally friendly) in NW to get irie on "Bashment Tuesday."
  • Like all good Aquarians--Soulquarians, to be specific--?uestlove keeps the birthday celebrations going long after the actual date.  To know us is to love us!  On Wednesday, he stops at Liv to continue celebrating his 40th.
  • Yes, it was posted on Friday, but this article about Sasha Obama speaking Mandarin to Hu Jintao made me smile.  Young, gifted and black, indeed.
Have a blessed week!
