This Is Where Your Alter Ego Will Be Partying on Saturday

I hate whenever articles about D.C. in the national media go the lazy route, with stale intros that drone on about how dull the city is, how its denizens think navy suits and tan hose are the height of fashion, and how we're all supposedly living in a sad little government-obsessed bubble.

Those who believe that nonsense couldn't even attempt to comprehend the mad creativity brewing at BloomBars this week.

Blak Fantasy, a masquerade event, will be happening there on Saturday, and it sounds like it will be off the chain.  From the website:
The theme for this event is Xzerea (Za Ray Aa) Moon. Dress wearing what you consider is sexy and beautiful, as if you were going out on a date with a god or goddress [sic]. You have total freedom in your attire but we request you keep it clean and sacred.
Say whaaa?  I don't know exactly what that means, but you know I'm curious.  The full description talks about dressing as your alter ego, and it all reminds me of one of those outre' underground events that would be frequented by Stefon from Saturday Night Live.  In other words, I may not be able to resist the urge to pop in.

The Cornel West Theory, the conscious/activist/ubiquitous local rap and poetry collective, is on the bill, and will likely be playing hits from their new album.

The suggested donation is $10.

Get the outfit right, or I might be blogging about you on Monday.
